SCoJeC is delighted that, following its briefing to the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, the Scottish Government has responded to a parliamentary question by reaffirming its support for shechitah. SCoJeC also welcomes an apology from a petitioner to the Scottish Parliamentwhich was made after we expressed concern that the wording of his petition, which opposes shechitah, was offensive. SCoJeC followed up it's recent evidence to the Scottish Parliament on the subject of Nazi-looted art, by briefing MSPs who participated in a debate on about the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Bill. As a result Deputy Justice Minister, Johann Lamont, who described the debate as 'significant', assured the Scottish Parliament that Ministers will pursue the issue at Westminster.
