At the AGM, which took place at Garnethill Synagogue in Glasgow, chair, Kenneth Collins, praised SCoJeC's achievements in consolidating its links with all aspects of Scottish civil society, and constantly working for the wellbeing of the Jewish community in Scotland. The importance of reliable funding was emphasised in order to enable SCoJeC to continue to operate effectively, and thanks was given to the various bodies which have supported its work during the past year, amongst which were the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, the Glasgow Jewish Community Trust, the Scottish Council of Synagogues, Edinburgh Hebrew Congregation, Glasgow Reform Synagogue, the Board of Deputies, the Scottish Government, BEMIS, and the Clore Foundation.

SCoJeC's Director, Ephraim Borowski, recalled the highlights of the last year, which included a visit from the First Minister, Alex Salmond, during which he visited Calderwood Lodge Jewish Primary School, and met a cross-section of communal leaders, a visit to Giffnock Synagogue by the Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini, and the publication of Scotland's Jews which was formally launched after the meeting by Stewart Maxwell, the Minister for Communities and Sport. On a less welcome note, he reported that SCoJeC has had to raise the issue of antisemitism on a number of occasions, most dramatically to complain to both the Scotsman and the Herald about the vicious abuse they were hosting on their comment pages. SCoJeC has been very gratified by the support it received from many MSPs, but is disappointed by the refusal of either paper even to respond, and dismayed by the Kafkaesque reasons the Press Complaints Commission gave for their inaction.

Ephraim was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List for services on behalf of the Jewish community in Scotland. This will be presented at the Palace of Holyrood on 1 July, and, to mark the occasion, Kenneth's last duty as chair was to present him with an engraved kiddush cup. For once Ephraim was speechless,  but,  recovered  sufficiently to say
Presentation to Ephraim Borowski
that he was very grateful for the very kind gesture, and that he did not regard the award as being for him, but rather for all that SCoJeC has achieved.
